Abstract:

In order to study the dynamic meshing characteristics of the elliptic cylinder gear and obtain the meshing error of the gear transmission system, the two-dimensional static contact analysis of the gear tooth surface is carried out by using ANSYS software, and the key parts of the contact area of the tooth surface are determined. Then, the dynamic meshing model of the elliptic cylinder gear is established and the dynamic contact process under load is simulated by using ANSYS LS-DYNA software. The distribution law of effective plastic strain, effective stress and pressure of the driving and driven wheels are obtained. On this basis, the distribution law of meshing error is obtained by calculation. The results show that the distribution of stress, strain and tooth surface pressure during tooth meshing is related to the position of the tooth on the elliptical pitch curve. The position of the tooth on the pitch curve and the load it bears has a certain influence on the meshing error. The research results can provide some guidance for subsequent study of transmission error of non-circular gears, gears modification and engineering applications.

Dynamic Meshing Characteristics of Elliptic Cylinder Gear Based on Tooth Contact Analysis

As the most important working area of gear, teeth play the role of transmitting load and power. Tooth line and tooth profile are the two main characteristics of the tooth surface, which affect the shape of the tooth surface, tooth meshing characteristics and contact characteristics. Taking the elliptical cylinder gear pair in the reversing device of a new type of drum pumping unit as the resear...

Predicting Depth and Path of Subsurface Crack Propagation at Gear Tooth Flank under Cyclic Contact Loading

In this paper, a two-dimensional computational model is proposed for predicting the initiation position and propagation path of subsurface crack of spur gear tooth flank. In order to simulate the contact of teeth, an equivalent model of two contacting cylinders is used. The problem is assumed to be under linear elastic fracture mechanic conditions and finite element method is used for numerical...

Statics Analysis of Cylindrical Gear Drive at Any Meshing Position Based on Ansys

The transform relation between the meshing position and rotation angle of a cylindrical gear pair is firstly derived according to the theory of gear meshing. Then the technique of building the assembly model of a cylindrical gear pair at specified meshing position in ANSYS is researched. On this basis, a new method to perform static contact analysis of cylindrical gear at any meshing location i...

Sliding Friction Contact Stiffness Model of Involute Arc Cylindrical Gear Based on Fractal Theory

Gear’s normal contact stiffness played an important role in the mechanical equipment. In this paper, the M-B fractal model is modified and the contact surface coefficient is put forward to set up the fractal model, considering the influence of friction, which could be used to calculate accurately the involute arc cylindrical gears’ normal contact stiffness based on the fractal theory and Hertz ...

On tribological design in gear tooth contacts

The correct tribological design will have a considerable effect on a gear’s service life and efficiency. The purpose of this thesis is to clarify the impact of variation in the gear tooth flank tribological system on the gear contact load capacity – to increase the understanding of how surface topography and lubricant interact. In this thesis the variation in surface topography inherent in the ...
